ADOPT A POLISH SOLDIER FOR CHRISTMAS

Brochure in English & Broszura po Polsku

The American Polish Forum’s Mission

There are currently over 2,000 Polish troops stationed in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, including air-support and Special Forces units doing critical frontline fighting against our common enemies. Poland was among the first nations to align with the United States in the Afghan War and has been a strong ally in the Global War on Terror since the 9/11 attacks. However, in almost eight years on the ground in Afghanistan, Polish soldiers have never been the recipients of a large-scale care package initiative. We at the American Polish Forum believe it is time to change that - our mission is to make sure it does!

These troops need our support and our efforts will demonstrate America’s appreciation for their critical contributions to the War on Terror. The culture of sending care packages to troops does not exist in any NATO country to the extent that it does in the United States, and we hope to share a piece of this celebrated generosity with our Polish allies. Poland is a country dedicated to the cause of freedom, peace, and democracy, and this year marks the 90th anniversary of diplomatic ties between our two countries. It is therefore our intention to send every Polish soldier serving in Afghanistan a personal care package as an expression of gratitude and solidarity.

Your Mission

We cannot do this without your help. We are therefore inviting individuals and families to Adopt a Polish Soldier for Christmas this year. It’s very simple: you donate $25 to our mission, and the APForum will take care of the rest. Your tax-deductible contribution will help us to send every soldier an individual care package that includes comforts from home (i.e. cookies, socks), items useful on the front lines, and perhaps most importantly, a traditional Opłatek (Polish Christmas wafer). We will also be sending small toys to distribute to Afghan children. You may include a personal card for the soldier(s) you are adopting, which will be included in the care package; otherwise a standard card will be written on your behalf.

In return, you will receive a certificate of appreciation for your contribution. The certificate can be made out in your name, or it can be the perfect Christmas gift for a friend or family member. All we ask is that you send your donation and details to us by December 12th so that the packages can arrive in Afghanistan in time for Christmas.

The APForum is organizing an event on December 19th to pack the boxes and prepare them for shipping. The event will bring together volunteers, notable individuals of Polish descent, media, and distinguished guests. Traditional Polish food will be served. Interested volunteers should contact Eva Blaszczynski at eblaszczynski@americanpolishforum.org.
